Introduction to Computers
'No or low' computer skills?
For those with 'no or low' computer skills, beginner's Introduction to Computers is where to take the leap. Don't worry, you'll be among friends and remember, "a journey of one thousand miles starts with one step". The following topics are discussed along with hands-on practice:
• Hardware, software, computer jargon
• Windows desktop, icons, task bar, background, screensaver
• Mouse control
• Keyboard and touch-typing
• Microsoft applications
• Word processing including basic editing, saving & printing
Beginner's
Introduction to Computers
sessions are 2 hours long, once per week and run for 5 consecutive weeks.
Holding The Mouse
For beginners first introduction to computers, use of the mouse is an essential skill.
• Hold the sides of the mouse with your thumb, ring finger and pinkie.
• Place your index finger on the left button, middle finger on the right button. Note: When you're instructed to "click", use the single button or the button labeled "left" in the image below.
• Rest your wrist on the desk or mouse pad.
• The mouse stays on the mouse pad. You can lift the mouse to move it when you run out of room on the pad.
Moving The Mouse
• Slowly slide the mouse around on the mouse pad. Watch what happens to the arrow on the screen Rest your hand on the mouse and move it slowly. There is no need to lift the mouse
off the mouse pad, unless you run out of room.
• There is no need to turn the mouse to move left or right. Simply slide the mouse left or right with the buttons still facing away from you.
